Moving images are the most vital and exciting record of twentieth century life. The North West Film Archive is Britain's largest public collection outside London. The Archive was set up in 1977 and is the professionally recognised home for moving images made in or about Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Cheshire. The region's position at the forefront of industrialisation is reflected in the Archive's Collection which is a powerful record of modern urban society. The Archive works closely with colleagues in national and regional film archives throughout the country. In 1994 it became a member of the International Federation of Film Archives (FIAF).
The North West Film Archive is a part of the Library Service of the Manchester Metropolitan University. This document is maintained by Marion
