MANCHESTER VT: RNW A824X/11: David Davies, snf, talking to Bob Rawlinson, Greater Manchester Fire Service, and Jack Hayworth of the Fire Brigade Union, about the forecast that firemen are about to be granted a 15-20% pay rise at a time when there is a large shortage of firemen. The training programme lasts 14 weeks - and of those who apply at least 40% are failed. The shorter working week is about to be introduced - so there looks as though there will be no shortage of overtime for firemen. Recorded by the News O.B. unit. 4’25’’
