Synopsis |
Includes Homeground title sequence at head. Programme focuses on the Rossendale Valley in East Lancashire, in particular its traditions of an annual carnival, old textile mills and cricket. Includes outdoor scenes at the Rossendale Carnival, a cricket match at Rawtenstall and disused mill building interiors. There are good shots of workers at one of the few remaining working mills, Caleb Shepherd Limited in Waterfoot, where cotton sheets are shown being made. Also includes interviews with retired cotton weaver Ernest Taylor, cricket fan Winston Place, Property Developer Arnold Duggelby (who highlights the potential of many of the old mill buildings in Rossendale), Caleb Shepherd Managing Director Tom Mills (who speaks about the decline of the textile industry) and Planning Officer Ian Goldthorpe (who highlights Rossendale's desirability as a place to live). |
