Synopsis |
Barry Askew introduces this compilation programme from a BBC studio and mentions the various programmes the series has had (black and white). Friday Brown is shown singing "Long Time Boy" on a steamer on Lake Windermere. There are other studio links from Barry Askew. Then we see footage of Knowsley Hall, Merseyside, where the Earl of Derby lived and had a menagerie. Edward Lear worked at the Hall as an artist for the Earl and whilst there Lear wrote nonsense rhymes for which he is famous. Actor Charles Lewson is seen reciting many of Lear's rhymes in the grounds of Knowsley Hall. There are shots of the natural history illustrations and landscapes Lear painted. There is further footage of Friday Brown by a river singing "If You Go Away". |
