Synopsis |
A selection of pieces to camera by members of the public. Opens with "Free Speech" title sequence. A presenter speaks to camera from a derelict street in Liverpool and meets resident George Scully, who is against the way slums have been demolished. He then meets Rose Greer, the last occupier left in a derelict street. We hear from Peter Richardson who describes the transformation of the Sandston Road area of Old Swan in Liverpool, which was improved rather than demolished. Includes shots of boarded up, derelict, terraced houses and other houses in Liverpool. An elderly man talks about the 9 million old age pensioners in Britain as the "forgotten section of our community". A woman points out that privileges for OAPs are not easily obtained. A man estimates the cost of metrification to be £5,000 million for the British public. An elderly woman supports bringing back capital punishment. |
