Synopsis

Presenter Harry Boardman visits old mines in Derbyshire to recount the history of lead mining in the area. He describes the renowned reputation the Derbyshire mineral fields had, various disputes between miners and the closure of the area's mines in the mid-1800s. He is shown at Dirtlow Rake near Castleton, Magpie Mine and Red Soil mine near Sheldon and Shacklow Wood. Includes a song about miners, shots of a miner working underground and shots of pit heads.
