Synopsis

Film centres on the 'Hale Action Committee,' formed by the residents of Hale village, to protest against a proposed extension of Speke Airport. Opens with "Free Speech" series title sequence and accompanying music. Presenter speaks to Chairman of the Protest Committee, Tom Johnson, who is Managing Director of a local paint factory. Johnson outlines the reasons behind the Committee's opposition to the extension. The Head of the Committee's Publicity Section, Eddie Edwards describes the media interest surrounding the protest. There are wide shots of Widnes and the Runcorn Bridge. Hale Information Centre is shown where the Head of the Technical Section talks about the potential increase in air traffic. Local people are interviewed outside Hale Information Centre and express concern about the effect on the village.
