Synopsis

Focuses on the tiny twenty-acre Piel Island, which lies just off Walney Island in the Irish Sea, near the Furness Peninsula. A local woman revisits the cottage where she grew up, one of only six cottages on the Island and recalls memories of her youth. She speaks to George Barnes, who lives there alone with no mains gas or electric supply, in her old cottage. An archaeologist speaks about prehistoric remains found on the Island and shows arrow heads found there. Includes shots of rough seas around the Islands, the block of six cottages, Barnes walking his dog on the beach, Piel's fourteenth century castle and the Ship Inn, Piel Island's only pub.
