Synopsis

Focuses on the week-long Blackpool Music Festival, one of the country's biggest and oldest cultural competitions, in 1975. There are general views of Blackpool seafront and behind-the-scenes footage at the music festival including some of the 5,000 competitors rehearsing and audiences milling around. Features Nancy Goodwin from Crewe, a young regular festival-goer who is hoping to win some 'pots' (trophies) and we see her solo drama performance. Members of the Great Sutton Male Voice Choir from Ellesmere Port and a female choir from Cornwall are interviewed. Several children are shown reading aloud to an audience, playing the piano and a mother whose young daughter takes part is interviewed about why oratory is good for children. There are shots of the adjudicators judging performances and one is interviewed. Male choirs are shown singing on stage interspersed with shots of the (mostly elderly) audience. Eileen Davies wins the 'rose bowl' at the prizegiving ceremony and a winning elderly female choir from Fleetwood are interviewed outside the theatre.
