Synopsis

B8/1: Extracts from a programme on Kathleen Ferrier (1912-1953), international contralto singer born in Blackburn. Her elder sister, Winifred, speaks about memories of their childhood, Kathleen's marriage to Albert Wilson, her career in singing during World War Two, moving to London in 1942 and her death from breast cancer in 1953. Includes various stills of Ferrier performing on stage and audio of her singing in her last performance (Gluck's Orfeo at The Royal Opera House, Covent Garden in 1953). 16m01s
