Synopsis |
Programme about Environment Minister Peter Shore's plans to give financial aid to inner cities, in order to counteract economic shift away from city centres. There is footage of derelict terraced properties in Liverpool (where the unemployment rate is 32.5%). We see Shore talking to Liverpudlian residents and a meeting of the Liverpool Partnership Committee. Shaw speaks about a new partnership to boost industry in inner city areas, which would involve millions being invested in Merseyside and Greater Manchester. A new Craft Village to be developed in Manchester city centre with government money is mentioned. There are numerous shots of building work in Manchester and shots of the exterior of the disused Manchester Smithfield Market Hall, which closed in 1973 and the Daisy Works, Manchester. |
