Synopsis

Four film extracts highlighting issues affecting young people. A young unemployed girl from Rochdale talks about the difficulties she's faced getting a job after leaving school and she is shown going for walks and reading in her bedroom alone. Mike Sweeney is shown running with long-distance runner Ron Hill and Hill talks about training for a marathon. The Moss Side Link Programme is featured, designed to provide support for local unemployed people. A spokeswoman taks about the training opportunities and work placements within the Programme, students are shown doing problem-solving tasks and a woman from Training for Life, a similar scheme based in Wythenshawe, describes projects they do. An unemployed man is shown supervising youngsters on an allotment project and he talks about the experience he's gained. Two brothers who have started their own cake-making business as a result of attending the Programme, describe the advice they received. Mike Sweeney and police officer Neville White of the Delta Project (which gives unemployed youngsters practical training in motor mechanics) test a car a group of youths have just repaired.
