Synopsis

Journalist Pat Seed from Garstang, who has cancer, is interviewed about launching an appeal for Christies Hospital; Felicity Goodey visits "A right to vote" exhibition in Manchester, celebrating the fiftieth anniversary of women gaining the right to vote and ninety-two year-old Elizabeth Dean is interviewed; adult eduction devotee ninety-eight year-old Andrew Hislop is shown doing woodwork at North Wirral College of Technology and is interviewed; an elderly woman is interviewed by Richard Duckenfield about running an old people's home; members of the Parachutists Over Forty organisation are shown parachuting and speaking about their hobby; Australian motorcyclist Mike Hailwood is shown taking part in the Isle of Man TT Races after a career break of ten years (includes shots of motorcyclists outside hotels and interviews with fans); Japanese businessman Rocky Aoki is shown at Aintree Racecourse and with Red Rum, both of which he hopes to buy; Sir Charles Villiers, Chairman of British Steel, is seen opening "Northbank" industrial estate on the site of the old Irlam Steelworks and is interviewed about the jobs that will be created there. 29m57s B333/2: News item in which reporter David Davies visits thirteen year-old David Ross who has slept in a tent in his parents back garden for two years in an attempt to break the world record. Davies interviews him and his parents. 03m53s B333/3: News item dated 23/06/78 featuring fourteen year-old gymnast Kathy Williams and her selection to train for the 1980 Moscow Olympics. She is interviewed about a typical day which includes hours of training at Huddersfield Gymnastic Club after school and her coach is shown speaking about her ability and dedication. Williams is shown performing movements on the beam and sommersaults on the floor (she went on to represent Great Britain in the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics). 03m14s
