Synopsis

Programme that takes Sir Cyril Smith MBE, ex-Mayor of Rochdale and MP, back to his roots. Film opens with shots of Smith visiting Spotland Primary School, Rochdale, where he was a pupil. There is footage of Rochdale town centre, including Rochdale Town Hall, interspersed with stills of Lord Mayor Smith at various functions and as a youngster. Further scenes include Smith being photographed by the press, applauded by crowds and drinking champagne (probably celebrating an election win as liberal candidate for the Rochdale constituency).
