Synopsis |
B250/1: Programme about financial aid given to the UK by the European Economic Community, from which the North West has received over £10 million since 1973, via the Regional Development Fund, European Social Fund and European Agricultural Fund. Examples of projects that have received EEC aid are shown, including bridge construction in Burnley, improvements to the former Judge's Lodgings in Lancaster, workers being trained at the Cotton and Allied Textiles Training Board in Manchester, modernisation at a dairy in Tarvin in Cheshire and the re-training of redundant steel workers from the British Steel Corporation in Irlam (where production ceased in 1979). Fisherman are shown at Fleetwood Docks blaming the EEC for the declining fishing industry. 03m49s |
