Synopsis

Extracts from the second programme in the 'North and South' series in which reporters Felicity Goodey and Nick Clarke compare and contrast the Southern town of Luton in Bedfordshire with the Northern town of Preston. Issues of housing, health services, education and the move from old to new industries are examined. Both towns' high levels of youth unemployment are covered and the rise in crime in Luton is contrasted with Preston's communty spirit. Includes vox pops with Lutonians and Prestonians giving perceptions of their hometowns.
