Synopsis

Programme looking at Chelmorton Infant School near Buxton in Derbyshire, which is facing closure due to falling numbers of pupils, and the fight by parents to keep it open. The school's ten pupils are shown being taught by Headmistress Joyce Bull, singing in assembly and measuring chicks in a classroom. There are interviews with Headmistress Joyce Bull, Chairman of the School Governors Harris Windle, George Wheeldon (whose family have attended the school for three generations) and landlord of the Church Inn pub Walter Warhurst, all of whom oppose the closure. Mothers describe the problems their children would face if the school closed, namely the long bus rides to Harper Hill Junior School. Includes general views of Chelmorton village and surrounding countryside.
