Synopsis |
Programme focuses on Agecroft Rowing Club, Salford, one of the oldest rowing clubs in the country. Opens with "Changes" title sequence and music. There are numerous shots of men from the club rowing on the River Irwell, checking boats on the river banks and being coached. Ways in which the club has changed over its 120 year history are mentioned, such as the inclusion of women and working-class members. Archive footage of the club in the 1930s(?) is included. Club members are seen weight training and doing a training session from the Grosvenor Rowing Club on the River Dee, Chester. We hear from the club coach and Kevin Maynard, a committee member, who proposes to move the club headquarters to the River Irwell in Central Manchester, where it would become the leading rowing centre for the North of England. Maynard is seen with North West Rowing Council members inspecting the proposed site in Manchester City Centre and Salford Docks are shown. Agecroft Rowing Club Committee meetings are shown. There are shots of the club driving to London and taking part in the Jackson Trophy competition on the River Thames. Programme ends with general views of the club members rowing. |
