Synopsis |
B66/1: Programme tracing the history of the Quaker movement and the life of its founder, George Fox. There is footage of an actor playing Fox dressed in traditional Quaker attire on Pendle Hill near Burnley, which Fox climbed in1652. Fox then travelled in the Yorkshire Dales to preach and there are shots of the villages of Craven, Wensleydale, Hawes, Dent and Sedbergh. The presenter speaks to Mary Dawson from Sedbergh about the Quaker movement and a service is shown at a Quaker Meeting House. We see Cartmell Priory in Cumbria and Camsgill Farmhouse near Preston Patrick, Westmorland where Fox stayed. An actress is dressed as Fox's wife, Margaret Fell. Lancaster Castle is shown, including shots of cells where Quakers were imprisoned. The presenter interviews Professor Roger Wilson about the truth and peace testimonies of Quakers.
