Synopsis |
B73/1: Incomplete programme focusing on several individuals living in the North West with physical and mental disabilities. Liverpudlian school teacher Sid Abbot is interviewed about returning to teaching after losing his sight and he is shown teaching a maths class. Joe and Mary Brindley from Manchester, who are both blind, talk about how they cope and Mary is shown cooking. Typist Christine Redfern is interviewed and her mother speaks of how she doesn't let her disability stop her doing things. Pensioners Jack Chapman and Frank Stonley are shown walking in the street using white sticks. Margaret, who is blind and Bella, who is deaf, are seen shopping. Two female residents with mental disabilities at Calderstones near Whalley speak about their lives there and a manager is interviewed about integrating residents into the community. There are voxpops with people on the streets of Whalley about Calderstones residents being moved into the community (some views are quite negative). 30m04s |
