Synopsis |
B11/1: The three separate sections of this material are named 'Stallions', 'Dairy Farm' and 'Grasmere Sports'. Frank Mellor attends the Arab Horse Society's Northern Show in 1974 where horses are paraded and awarded rossettes and he visits Birkrigg Park Arabian Stud in Ulverston where girls are seen working in the stables. Mellor then speaks to a dairy farmer at Lower Peover in Cheshire about the poor state of the industry due to production costs and there are shots of cows being milked. The third section shows traditional events at the annual Grasmere Sports and Show in Cumbria on 22 August 1974, including a brass band and men competing in long jump, pole vault and wrestling events. There are quite lengthy shots of a fell race or 'guides race', showing Fred Reeves winning, and hound trailing. 25m48s |
