Synopsis

A mostly well-shot programme focusing on Styal Women's Prison in Wilmslow. Several of the women inmates are interviewed about life in the prison and they are mostly very positive. Various daily routines are shown: the women eat breakfast, work in the kitchens, market gardens and laundry, sew clothing, relax and read letters and are body-searched before bed. The women's welfare is emphasised: they are shown participating in a meditation class, an evening class in music, working towards a qualification in Soft Furnishings and with their babies in the Mother and Baby Unit. The Governor, Miss Morgan, is interviewed about the way the prison is run. Ends with general views of the prison exterior.
