B163/1: BBC presenter Michael Buerk reporting to camera outside Lancaster Castle, where the trial of the defendants accused of the IRA Birmingham pub bombings took place (trial began 9 June 1975). Two Birmingham pubs were destroyed in the attacks in November 1974. Six Irish men - Hugh Callaghan, Paddy Hill, Gerard Hunter, Richard McIlkenny, William Power and John Walker - were convicted in 1975 of carrying out the attacks but in 1991, the Appeal Court quashed their convictions.
