Synopsis |
Filmed inserts about village life in the English countryside, highlighting the villages of Alston near Gilderdale Forest in Cumbria, Middleham in Wensleydale, North Yorkshire and Burnsall in Wharfedale, North Yorkshire. Histories of each village are provided and there are general views of each village and its surrounding countryside. A history of mining around Alston is given and Nenthead lead mine is shown. The tradition of training racehorses at Middleham is provided and there are shots of horses riding across Middleham moors. A man describes how Burnsall used to be self-sufficient and there are shots of villagers going about daily life. Also describes how poor weather affects the transportation of goods over the Pennine Hills and includes scenes of lorries on snow-covered Pennine roads. |
