Synopsis

Reporter Frank Mellor visits the South West Cumbrian coastal town of Millom. He gives a brief history of the discovery of iron ore at Hodbarrow in 1885 which turned Millom into a prosperous town, the closure of the iron works in 1973 and the town's decline and unemployment problem since then. Mellor mentions various funding initiatives and the planned development of Hodbarrow. There are interviews with Peter Finch, Manager at Drum Closures Ltd and Manager Robert Slack about the economic recession. Wesley Park, Recreation and Amenities Officer, speaks about the community spirit in Millom. Urban Projects Officer John Porter is interviewed about Millom's need for change. Includes stills of the old iron works and general views of Millom including its beach, churches and cricket club.
