Synopsis

Programme looking at a research project taking place into the effect of weather conditions on noise levels of explosions at the biggest quarry in Europe, the ICI-owned quarry in Buxton. Tony Oats, from I.C.I.'s Technical Department speaks about Salford University's involvement with the project. Geoff Carey, from the Department of Acoustics at Salford University, who is the Scientific Officer in charge of the research, explains how they will determine the best conditions so that blasts will affect local people the least. There are shots of explosions at the quarry, the weather station and men carrying out wind recordings. 05m54s
