Synopsis

Traces the route of the River Mersey from its source as the River Etherow to its mouth in Liverpool and questions how clean it is. Includes views of reservoirs at Longdendale, Etherow Country Park near Stockport, the Mersey Way Shopping Centre in Stockport, Warrington town centre, Greenall Brewery bottling plant at Warrington and the river as it runs through Stockport, Didsbury, where it becomes the Manchester Ship Canal and Liverpool. A man speaks of the history of the River Mersey in Didsbury and an ex-worker from Risley munitions factory near Warrington is interviewed. Water samples are shown being analysed in a laboratory. Includes shots of a reception dinner for the sixtieth anniversary of the Liverpool Playhouse Theatre and dockers loading containers at Liverpool Docks.
