Synopsis

Programme on the decision by the British government to buy aircraft with the American Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) instead of the British-made radar, which can track targets over water. There are shots of a Nimrod aircraft - an RAF Comet with a Marconi-Elliot radar fitted to its nose - outside Hawker Siddeley Aviation Limited at Woodford Aerodrome in Cheshire. The Director of Hawker Siddeley Aviation Limited is interviewed about the difficult times for the aerospace industry and the potential loss of 7000 jobs if the government go with the American aircraft.
