Synopsis

Programme about the career of Lord Donald Stokes, Chairman and Chief Executive of Leyland Motors Ltd (LM). Opens with shots of Leyland and the LM building exterior. There are stills of factory workers and Leyland lorries. Footage includes a 'Leyland Apprentice Instructor' teaching apprentices, completed lorries, Stokes Hall (LM's Engineering Students Hall of Residence) exterior and the Lord Stokes Thwaites pub exterior. There are stills of Blackpool Tower and seafront and of Lord Stokes on his wedding day interspersed with footage of Blackpool Winter Gardens arcade and couples ballroom dancing. The LM factory interior is shown and a still of an old motor car - "Standard 7 H. P. Model' - is seen. The Standard Motor Company Ltd, Coventry and Lord Stokes' office within are shown. There is a close up of Leyland Motors' 'Queen's Award to Industry', stills and footage of factory workers and Standard assembly line. Film ends with stills of Lord Stokes as a youngster and throughout his career.
