Synopsis

Looks at the work of the Liverpool City Police Vice Squad and briefly Customs and Excise as they fight drug trafficking in Liverpool. Includes shots of a drug dealer being charged, photographed, finger-printed and put in a cell at a Bridewell Prison in Liverpool. Detectives are shown discussing a case at the Vice Squad headquarters in Toxteth. A ship at Liverpool Docks is shown being searched by Customs and Excise drugs officers. There are shots of the once wealthy Rialto district in Toxteth, which is the focus of the drug detectives' operations, including dishevelled children playing in the street. Includes 'anonymous' interviews with a convicted drug trafficker about the drugs that arrive at Liverpool Docks, an undercover policeman about infiltrating the drug trafficking circles and a woman about her son who died aged 21 from a drugs overdose. There are shots of a consignment of cannabis, opium pipes and pills, streetscenes in Liverpool's Chinatown and a Chinese man smoking opium, good shots of youngsters dancing in the Cavern Club and brief shots of prostitutes on the streets of Liverpool.
