Synopsis |
B344/1: Nick Peake reports on five examples of youngsters in the North West doing projects that benefit their local community. He visits Penketh County High School in Warrington where three boys won a competition to survey the dangers of waterways for children and the boys and their teacher Kevin Harrison are interviewed briefly. Peake visits Moseley Secondary School's Industrial Railways Society (near Cheadle) and asks pupil Dave Smiley and teacher Colin Saxton about the restoration work they do on old locomotives. Pupils are shown working on the track and riding on the trains in the school grounds. At a weather station at St. Joseph's Junior School in Leigh, pupils are shown recording meteorological information, pupil Timothy Appleton is interviewed and pupil Barbara Edwards reads a weather forecast to camera. At Fulledge Community Centre in Burnley, a dog handling course run by Zoe Baker is shown and children are shown learning how to train and groom their dogs. Youngsters from Norden County High School in Rishton near Blackburn are seen clearing rubbish from Star Delph Quarry (between Rishton and Great Harwood) and teacher John McNeil is interviewed about returning the area to a nature reserve. 18m42s |
