Synopsis

Extract focusing on the town of Oswaldtwistle in Lancashire. A presenter visits the town during Civic Week, when an opening ceremony and a children's eye spy competition take place. He describes the history of the town, particularly its textile industry and there are shots of old textile mills. There are voxpops with locals about the community spirit of the town. Various people are interviewed including Eric Roberts of the Oswaldtwistle Civic Society, Secretary of the Civic Society Winnie Hogan and Mike Rothwell of the Hyndburn Historical Society. Includes general shots of Oswaldtwistle and scenes of children clog dancing in the street, the public library, shops on the main street, beehive-shaped coke ovens and the derelict Ridding's Chapel, which is marked for destruction.
