Synopsis |
B444/1: Programme on the preserved 'Mannin 2' coal-fired steam-powered dredger, built in 1937, which has a voluntary three-man crew dedicated to keeping it operational. There are shots of the Mannin 2 out at sea, dredging the bottom of Lancaster harbour, the crew loading coal into the bunker and extensive shots of the steam engine itself. Interviews with crew members Derek Edisbury (Skipper), former Fleetwood fisherman Bob Hadcraft (crane driver), and Ian Rais as they sail the Mannin 2 from Fleetwood to the Mersey for the Mersey Festival. There are shots of enthusiasts and historic vessels in Birkenhead Dock. Skipper Derek is seen riding on a minature railway and describing a model train he's building. 30m13s |
