Synopsis

Insert on the launch of the Merseyside Maritime Museum in July 1980 at Liverpool's Albert Dock. Reporter Frank Mellor speaks to Merseyside's Director of Museums Richard Foster about his hopes that the museum will rejuvenate the docks area and also to Merseyside's Keeper of Maritime History Mike Stammers about items in the museum's vast collection. There are scenes from the launch of the Maritime Museum, including County Council Chairman Kenneth Thompson giving a speech and various boats sailing on the Mersey. Includes shots of ship models, the maritime section of Liverpool City Museum and empty, disused warehouses at Liverpool's South Docks.
