Synopsis

Programme about a 'Challenge of Industry' conference, run by the Industrial Society, held at Paddington Comprehensive School in Liverpool. The conference is aimed at giving youngsters an insight into modern industry and choosing it as a career. There are shots of students from local schools and colleges taking part in problem-solving group sessions. Director of the Industrial Society John Garnett is interviewed by reporter Richard Duckenfield about the negative image youngsters have of industry. Duckenfield mentions the high unemployment and poor academic results in Merseyside.
