THE HAWESWATER AQUEDUCT

Introduction : 'The film shows briefly the work involved in the construction of the Haweswater Aqueduct between Garnett Bridge, near Kendal, and Heaton Park Reservoir, Manchester, a total distance of 64 miles, under the direction of Mr Alan Atkinson, M. Eng,. M.I.C.E., M.I.W.E., Engineer and Manager to the Manchester Corporation Waterworks Committee.' Includes scenes of the 'Firing of the 1st Shot' ceremony. The late alderman Sir William Kaye initiates proceedings, by detonating an explosion to mark the beginning of the construction work. Men are seen working on the machines at the shaft head, preparing detonators and dynamite, excavating rock from the tunnel face and laying the pipeline. The film also focuses on the structural designs of various bridges crossing the River Roach.

A film of the 41st Oldham Royal Tank Regiment receiving the freedom of Oldham. Watched by crowds, there is a procession of tanks through the town with the mayor and a marching band in attendance. The mayor inspects troops from the 41st, and photographs are taken. The mayor addresses the crowd from a podium, and the film ends with a shot of the calligraphed freedom document itself.
