Three films produced by the Manchester Grammar School Film Society. In the first film 'Homework Mislaid' a pupil falls down the stairs and while unconscious he has a nightmare that he stumbles across a newspaper with the headline that his teacher is actually a 'madman impersonating a teacher'. His teacher appears and chases him all round the school until he wakes up and realises it was all a dream. The second film is 'The Magic Ball'. A young boy is shown being bad a cricket and losing at marbles. Afterwards he is looking at a statue on the school grounds when a ball magically appears in the statue's hand. He takes the ball and with it he excels at both cricket and marbles and is presented with a trophy. After being presented with the trophy the ball blows up like a balloon and disappears back to the statue. In the third film, which has no title, a female teacher is seen knitting in the staff room. The male teachers all join in and start knitting too. The men then start doing other activities traditionally seen as feminine. They read women's magazines, do their hair and powder their faces, sew, iron and hang washing on a line. As the film ends the female teacher winks at the camera. | |||

At an agricultural show, policemen perform a dog handling demonstration. In the family garden, a young boy plays with a balloon. On a family day out to Twycross Zoo, the young boy goes on donkey rides and they see a variety of animals and birds. The children then spend some time in the zoo's playground. Later the family and grandparents, go for a walk around the gardens of a large country house. In the family garden, the young boy picks flowers for his pet tortoise to eat. At the beach, the boys fish with nets in rock pools. They visit a model village and ride the train. Back at home, Dad attaches the caravan to the car and they head off on their holidays. Brief shots of a ski lift (possibly Glencoe in Scotland), followed by shots of the Forth Bridge. In the garden, Margaret and Bernard set up a camera on a tripod. The children have rescued a nestling, Margaret hand feeds worms to the young bird. Over time we see the bird getting bigger and stronger, learning how to fly and catch worms. The film ends with a family walk around a waterfall. | |||

Scenes from the demolition and redevelopment of the shopping centre in Lancaster. The film opens with general views of Lancaster and then a look at a modern development and a model for the proposed new shopping centre. We then see demolition of parts of the old town shops and the clearing of the site. This is followed by construction scenes including pile driving, fixing girders, laying a bitumen floor and the placing of prefabricated concrete panels. We also see the reopening of the shopping centre on 20th October 1970 by the High Sheriff of Lancashire Colonel H. J. Darlington. There are lots of scenes shot around the new shopping centre. We some well known names such as Woolworths, Boots and Currys. We see inside the various shops which are getting ready for Christmas, including grocery shops and record shops. We also see behind the scenes, such as the working area in the butcher's shop and the staff offices, canteen and cloak room. | |||
