Views of the Mendip Merchantman enthusiast railtour on 1st Jan 1966 from London Waterloo to Hampshire, Somerset and Dorset Bath, and of coal trains in the Sunderland area. The Dorset Belle railtour travels from London Waterloo to Weymouth and back on 27th February 1966. Trams are seen in Blackpool and Fleetwood and a tour by the Roch Valley Railway Society of the National Coal Board railways around Walkden on 26th March 1966 is filmed.

A party is held at Werneth Grange, which was a social club for people with learning difficulties. Everyone is dressed in fancy dress and can be seen dancing together. They play pass the parcel before having some tea and cake. They then play musical chairs and bobbing for apples.

We then see scenes shot from the window of an aeroplane during the flight and then taxiing in the airport in Japan. We see various scenes from the trip to Japan, including a picnic in the countryside and playground scenes. There are car drives along country roads and shots of the visitors with their hosts. We see moving scenery shot from the window of a moving train, including a railway station. The Japanese scenes conclude with aerial shots of Japan as the plane takes off. Back home, we see family scenes in the garden.

Boys and teachers from Grange Park School, St Helens on a trip staying on the Langdale Estate in the Lake District. We see the boys hiking, taking a boat trip on Lake Windermere and playing golf with their teachers. The boys go for another walk and mess about in front of the camera, then go for a swim in a lake. The film ends with the boys loading their luggage on to a coach ready for travelling home. [Catalogued as part of 'Revitalising the Regions' - a Screen Heritage UK project, 2011]
 
 
 
[BRIXHAM BOAT TRIP]

The film opens with the members of the Wintrobe family waiting at the bus stop; we then follow them on their journey on the bus. We cut to scenes of a boat trip to Brixham, including views of the sea, harbour, cliffs and fishing boats. A larger vessel is seen out to sea. At the quay side we see the 'Golden Hind' in dock, with lots of shots of the masts and rigging, and a sign for 'Brixham Bone Cavern'. There are views of people strolling in the streets, seafood stalls including a jellied eel stall, and a woman with a parrot on her shoulder. The family then return on the ferry to Torquay, and get on the bus again - to the Wellswood Hall Hotel.
