FOCUS ON COMMITMENT | |||
Date: *1971 Film Number: 1675
Footage of a busy airport and streetscenes contrasted with the tranquillity of the countryside serves as a metaphor for hedonism and Christianity. A drunken gambler is seen, dancing wildly, materially successful yet evidently unfulfilled. The film then concentrates on the diverse and fulfilling life offered by the church, illustrated by the experience of the Anybody family, newly arrived in Altrincham. Welcomed to the community by a church steward and vicar the family enjoy a wealth of social and spiritual events, meetings and youth groups are seen as is the local church school. Geoffrey Wheeler's commentary stresses the variety and commitment inherent in Christian life. Diverse age groups and professions are seen engaging in activities such as dancing, playing games and attending committee meetings. Stills of church members and the church's 'sister' church in Africa close this semi dramatised documentary.
