PRESTON GUILD 1972 [2]

The 1972 Preston Guild pageant in the park with groups of children dancing in formation in front of a large crowd of spectators and a fly past by Concorde. A parade of vintage vehicles and floats from local industries and businesses are followed by dancing majorettes and armoured vehicles. The film ends with scenes from the Church of England procession, mounted police lead clergymen, banners, floats and brass bands.

This film opens with scenes from a trip on a canal boat. We see the boats in the basin and then views from the moving boat of the passing scenery and finally Anderton Boat Lift. We then scenes from Preston Guild 1972. There is a procession featuring floats, people in fancy dress, horse drawn carriages and veteran and vintage cars. At the carnival field we see the horses and carriages arrive and various exhibits and displays as well as people enjoying fairground rides.
 
 
 
[BARROW MAYOR'S SUNDAY]

The first half of the film shows the Mayors Parade in Barrow. The parade includes sea cadets and police. There is footage of the parade leading into church and then carrying on through Abbey Road to Barrow town hall. The second half of the film shows views taken from the hills above Barrow and the surrounding areas.

LOWER WITHINGTON ROSE QUEEN FESTIVAL 1ST JULY 1972

Floats gather in a field on 1st July 1972 in preparation for the festival parade, the parade begins with a marching band, fancy dress, tractors pulling decorated floats and the Rose Queen in a horse drawn carriage. At the show ground we see the Rose Queen coronation ceremony as well as the fancy dress and float decoration competitions and prize giving.

Members of the Brookes family are seen visiting Winnatts' Pass in Derbyshire. Two of the boys, Philip and Nicholas, are seen climbing up the side of a hill. Includes shots of people queuing to go into Speedwell Cavern. The family are also seen walking through Heaton Park. The boys are seen rowing on the boating lake and swinging on a rope hanging from a tree. Also features footage of a man and woman walking around Croal Housing Estate. The man, who is blind, has a guide dog by his side.
 
 
 
A DAY WITH SELNEC

A film about the work of SELNEC (South East Lancashire and North East Cheshire Passenger Transport Authority), and its provision of bus and rail services in the area. Shots include buses in suburban streets, views of Salford, Brooklands train station, and people boarding trains and buses. Training scenes include bus drivers in a classroom, a bus undergoing tests on a skid pan, and a driver training session on the road. There are numerous scenes in and around Piccadilly bus station, and Piccadilly Gardens, plus shots of the airport and scenes shot at night. There are also views of Piccadilly train station and footage taken of, and from, trains in that area.

Footage of Afghan Hounds being shown at several outdoor dog shows including the Three Counties Show at Malvern [and possibly Blackpool]. Activities of the 3rd Barrow in Furness (Grammar School) Scout Troop. New Year at Coniston, youth hostelling in Snowdonia, Spring Bank Holiday at Grasmere and summer camp in Morvich, Scotland. They spend time on these trips hillwalking, scrambling up mountains, swimming in lakes and the sea, camping and cooking.
