THE POOL OF LIFE

Film promoting tourism in and around Liverpool. Some of the region's museums and art galleries are visited, including the Lady Lever Art Gallery and the Merseyside Maritime Museum. After a trip to Knowsley Safari Park, the film looks at some of Merseyside's sporting and leisure activities, including football at Anfield, golf at the Royal Liverpool and racing at Aintree. Moving further afield, the film visits Southport, the Wirral, Chester, North Wales and the Lakes, before returning to Liverpool to look at the nightlife in the city, with people dancing in a nightclub and and locals drinking in the English pub, The Nook, in Chinatown.

A mince pie and a glass of sherry has been left for Santa. Mark hangs his stocking and helps Kathy with hers. We then see Kathy crawling up the stairs. There are more Christmas scenes, We see piles of toys and the extended family in the sitting room. The children eat cereals and play with headphones. We then see them in the bath. The children play in a pub car park, and then on holiday they play football on a foreign beach with their Dad. We later see the three of them in a dinghy in the sea. Back home there are more Christmas scenes and we see the children playing in the street. They attend a cricket match and we see them playing on a beach building sand castles and later having a picnic. There are scenes from a family trip to Jodrell Bank, followed by scenes of the children playing in the garden.

We see various activities taking place around the rally including a visit from senior members, scouts doing the outside catering and a helicopter landing and departing, presumably with VIP guests. There are also scenes from a scout camp at Linnet Clough. There are various scenes such as the scouts peeling potatoes and shots of their kit unpacked and laid out, ready for inspection. They build a cabin and a treehouse. There is also a trip to Lincoln and RAF Scampton. We see a football match in a school playground. The film ends with scenes of the boys being presented with certificates and a plaque.

Highland pipers play on the pitch at Holker Street Stadium home of Barrow FC as part of the Round Table gala day. As people try their luck at various stalls and coconut shies we see children taking pony rides and buying ice cream. A Punch and Judy show is enjoyed by adults and children alike then dance troupes perform tap dancing routines. The film ends with a children's judo demonstration.
 
 
 
PEARL ASSURANCE HALF MARATHON AND MAN CITY BLUE

The Pearl Assurance Half Marathon held in March 1986 in Swanley in Kent with shots of the runners at the start and finish line as well as the medals being awarded. The Man City Blue film begins with shots from the Fulham v City match at Craven Cottage followed by match action of the Wimbledon v City at Plough Lane as well as the players arriving at the ground. Next we have Maine Road exteriors with supporters walking to the match, followed by match action and goal from the Man City v Oxford game.

The camp for Salford Lads' Club in Aberystwyth is seen being set up prior to their arrival. When they do, an inspection is held, the lads are seen washing up after a meal and playing cricket and football. There is footage of a coach trip to Barmouth with a visit to the funfair and of a barbecue back at camp. Some of the lads are seen at a local market and on the beach, and everyone poses for the group photograph. There are views of the cookhouse as well as the Vale of Rheidol steam train and on the final day, the camp is packed up and the boys head home.

External views of Anfield, Goodison Park and Aintree, and scenes of derelict housing and flats before moving back to the city centre, documenting the regeneration of the Albert Dock. To mark the 80th anniversary of the 1st Longford Group, a group camp was held at Waddecar Scout Activity Centre. The groups were split into mixed team of Beavers, Cubs and scouts for cricket, football and volleyball. Over the weekend the children take part in abseiling and receive their badges. In Bassenthwaite camp the scouts and leaders cook some food and later play fun games and football. Later the troop members are awarded their badges and certificates for attending and participating in the group camp.
