Scenes from the 1969 Grimsargh Field Day. There is a procession with dance troupes, a brass band, rose queens, people in fancy dress and floats. At the carnival field on the village green we see a ceremony where the mayor speaks to the crowd and prizes are presented by the Rose Queen.

A horse with its foal, then a steam traction engine rally with a miniature carousel and children eating candy floss. Scenes from Frizington Gala Day with Gala Queen, stalls, ten pin bowling and people eating ice creams. A tour of Yorkshire visiting Harrogate, York, Fountains Abbey and Castle Howard. Seaside scenes with a Punch and Judy show on the promenade followed by water lilies on a pond. Another wedding with the bride and groom who is in naval uniform posing for photographs. The film ends with children playing on a pedal go-kart, petting horses and a dog playing with a hosepipe.

Bride and groom (John) pose for photographs with family and friends outside the church. In the next scene we see a tractor pulling a plough in a field. The logo on the tractor reads Stringfellow Contractors Ltd. In the next scene we see horses in the stables, cows and a dog in the yard. Later they take the horses out to practice jumping. The film ends with a brief shot of Jimmy's shop exterior.

On the family farm John loads the horses onto a trailer and departs with Patricia. They attend an indoor horse riding school. In the next scene we see members of a hunting group preparing to set off. The film cuts to shots of the garden and surrounding fields covered in snow. Friends and family make their way to the church for John's wedding. The bridesmaids arrive at the church soon followed by the bride and her father. Later the bride and groom pose for photographs outside the church.

GOING TO WORK - HOSPITAL WORK

A man with a head injury is taken to Hope hospital, Salford, in an ambulance. A nurse asks questions and a Dr examines him. A voiceover describes the roles of hospital staff. A nurse, Linda, treats the patient. Linda gives an interview and answers the matron's questions. Students partake in a class on bed-making, Linda is followed as she completes her training. A voice over explains the cadet scheme. In the hospital office, a member of staff, Brenda, discusses her role. The film looks at behind the scenes jobs in the hospital. Staff clean, trainee electrician Arthur Collins and apprentice cook Peter Navin train and work at the hospital, and on day release at the local technical college.

Mr Greenwood lights the bonfire with petrol, children excitedly help fuel the flames with newspaper and sticks then stand back to watch the bonfire burn. Footage cuts to a black labrador jumping over the Greenwood's fence whilst the Greenwood boys follow in pursuit. Finally, shots of the Greenwood boys emptying their wellington boots of sand whilst outside a beach.

LISTEN TO ME WHEN I'M TALKING TO YOU

A surreal drama made by students from Sir John Deane's College. A girl walks down a path in Tatton Park, and encounters various cultish activities. A man whips a woman (who transforms into a sheep) and people mime having sex with a tree and a cello, before the girl encounters a black mass which is to climax with the sacrifice of a child. The young woman rescues the child, and the cultists join her on the beach. Other scenes include schoolchildren killing a cat and a recreation of a World War II field hospital.
 
 
 
[AT THE BLETCHER'S CARAVAN IN NORTH WALES]

Holidays by Leslie and Sybil Bletcher to their caravan on the North Wales coast in 1969 and 1970. Views inside the caravan and around the caravan site. Sybil is seen by Llyn Crafnant Reservoir in Snowdonia, and they visit Bodnant Gardens, a small cottage and a swannery. The film ends with views of sparrows eating bread in the garden at home in Sale.

There is footage of a three day expedition through the Lake District and of general Scouting activities - cooking over campfires, playing games, camping, hillwalking and visiting sights of local interest. Unedited footage consisting of repeated tracking and panning shots with different lighting conditions inside Cheadle Royal (Industries) Ltd. People with learning difficulties and mental health problems are seen undertaking various tasks including cutting tissue paper to size on a machine, operating a printing press and making Christmas/party decorations out of coloured ribbon at sewing machines.
