HERE AND THERE

Scenes from a Boardman family trip to Aysgarth Falls in Wensleydale, followed by an army parade in Leverhulme Park and various RAF displays at Heaton Park. There are views of Blackpool taken from the top of Blackpool Tower and the illuminations are seen from the funfair at night. Ends with a parade at the Westhoughton Carnival 1970 and fun with a ducking stool at the Westhoughton Summer Fair 1969.

The film opens with shots of signs that tell us we are looking at new homes being built by Kelly Bros. of Audenshaw on the Bardsley Gate Farm Estate. There are scenes of builders doing varying construction jobs and playing cards on their break. The houses, which are still under construction, are covered in snow. We also see shots of the incomplete interiors.
 
 
 
[SUE AND ROD'S WEDDING]

Sue and Rod Pashley's wedding 13th of June 1970. Wedding guests, bridesmaids, bride and father arrive at the church. During the wedding reception, the newly married couple cut the wedding cake. Later the wedding party pose for photographs outside. The Bride and Groom depart in a decorated car. Later in the film the family have a picnic followed by a visit to Chester Zoo where they see various animals and visit a fairground.

Later on the entire family and friends are smartly dressed in the garden, Sue and Rod Pashley cut a cake (Christening perhaps?). Panning shot of commercial greenhouses followed by two men constructing the roof of a timber building. Close ups of the tomatoes in the greenhouse. The film ends with some men unloading a motorcycle from a trailer that is attached to the car. A quick shot of an aeroplane flying overhead.

Farming and family scenes from the Heyes Family of Mossborough Hall Farm in Rainford, St. Helens. We see scenes from the farm, tractors and other farm machinery, vegetable harvesting and farm animals. We see a horse giving birth to her foal. The family wave Mr and Mrs Heyes off on a train and we then see Mrs Heyes outside Buckingham Palace and laughing and chatting with the policemen outside 10 Downing Street as she poses for the camera. We then see her again on a boat leaving Dover, and then arriving on the continent. We see scenes of Cologne from a moving vehicle. Mr and Mrs Heyes go sightseeing in the city and then they visit a farm and inspect the cattle. They take a trip down the Rhine and we see them in a small town, Mrs Heyes points out the bullet holes in the walls of a building. We see family events, a wedding, a Golden Wedding Anniversary party and an 80th Birthday party. We see the family pulling crackers, carving the turkey and eating their Christmas dinner. There are family scenes, they go camping and have picnics and visit the Rainford Carnival 29th August 1970. We see a piano smashing competition at a county fair, and Mr Heyes fishing with his sons, and there are scenes of horse riding. A lady poses with a hunting rifle and mounted stags head.

[SCHOOL TRIP TO LONDON]

Parents wave goodbye to staff and children of Carr Mill primary school as they board the coach for a school trip to London. On the way the group stop for a picnic, they play games and have ice cream. During their trip they visit London zoo, Westminster Abbey and feed the pigeons in Trafalgar Square. The children go swimming in Serpentine Lido. The next morning the children brush their teeth and have breakfast in the hotel dining room. They do more sightseeing including a boat ride along the Thames. The group board the coach and head back to St Helens.
 
 
 
ONE WEEKEND IN AUGUST

A film showing the many and varied activities and hobbies to be enjoyed in Burnley in the early 1970s including early morning post and bread deliveries, market traders and supermarket interiors. The wedding of Veronica and Stuart takes place at the Parish Church of St Margaret in Dunham Massey. The wedding party and guests arrive, and after the ceremony, the bridal couple are seen outside the church, being showered with confetti, and departing on honeymoon. The reel continues with family scenes – a woman and two young children in a living room, playing with toys - and ends with the children’s bathtime.
