Description

Cars pull up outside St Luke’s Church in Heywood on September 16th 1939, as smartly dressed wedding guests arrive, watched by a crowd of interested onlookers on the pavement. The single bridesmaid arrives, and then the bride with her father. After the ceremony, the couple – the groom in army uniform – make their way out of the church. In a sunny garden, the wedding group stands around and chats, and poses for photographs. Finally, the couple depart by car, the groom carrying a tin helmet under his arm.
