Description

A record of the creation, construction, installation and unveiling of the bronze statue of Emmeline Pankhurst in St Peter’s Square, Manchester. Councillor Andrew Simcock relates the history of the project, while sculptor Hazel Reeves welcomes a group from Manchester to her Brighton studio to see her work in progress, and talks about her collaboration with life model Sarah Jenkins. There are scenes in the foundry where the statue is cast, and ground preparation work in St Peter’s Square, followed by the opening of the meeting circle on 15th July 2018. Finally, the grand unveiling of the Pankhurst statue takes place on 14th December, with processions arriving from around the city, Manchester Community Choir performing, and speakers Naga Munchetty and Helen Pankhurst, great-granddaughter of the Suffragette.
