Description |
A record of Preston's week of celebration begins with street scenes and hanging up the decorations on Floyer Street. Large crowds attend the guild proclamination speech by the mayor on Mayors' Sunday. Athletes run down the main street with one runner holding a model of the town hall clock tower. Clergymen and civic dignitaries exit the Parish Church and parade with policemen, brass bands and war veterans. A veteran car rally is followed children in party hats sat in the street. Church of England, Catholic and Free Church processions with religious banners, icons, bands and floats. The trade procession with various floats and fancy dress advertising local industries. Children dressed as knights rehearse then take part in the pageant at Avenham park. The Guild funfair with various rides and fairground stalls by day and night. The film ends with civic dignitaries saluting an army regiment as they march past. |
