Description

Scenes from different departments in the steelworks at Irlam. On the finishing and inspection banks, steel girders are seen in the loading yard, on the straightening machine and being cleaned and finished prior to dispatch. In the mine arch plant, girders are bent into shape and assembled into the finished arches. In the foundry, views of the pattern and moulding shops are followed by the steel being heated and poured into the moulds. In the roll turning shop, there are views of the drawing office and template room, and large steel rolls are turned on a lathe into the required shape. Finally, a large steel shackle is seen being forged by steam hammer in the blacksmith's shop.
