Description |
Farming and family scenes from the Heyes family of Mossborough Hall Farm in Rainford, St. Helens. The film opens with scenes of a mechanical digger parked up, which we later see in use. We then see a family gathering at home, people chat and are encouraged to talk for the camera, but nobody really wants to. An elderly lady plays 'English Country Garden' on the piano. We see a football match, and a herd of sheep being herded down from the hills. A grandmother and her grandson chat in front of the camera. She has been sent a record by Reader's Digest which gives details of how you can win some money, she wants him to listen to it and tell her what to do. We see scenes from the Chipping Show, female Black and White Faced Leicester sheep are being judged and Mr Hayhurst wins the championship. The girl behind the camera films the scenery around the farm on 27 April 1978, and points out sites of interest in the distance, including Knowsley Safari Park, Rainfords Farm, Rainhill Asylum, Fiddlers Ferry, Pilkingtons Head Office, St. Helens, Peasley Cross, Puffing Billy, the Sheet Works, Sir Harry Pilkington's residence, Moss Bank and Fairfield. On 7 September 1978 Mrs Heyes films the altar at Rainford All Saints Church which has been decorated by herself, Helen Fishwick and Alma Howarth for the church centenary. We see snow scenes on 21 January 1979, they are feeding the cattle in Knowsley Park after having six inches of snow. The film ends with scenes of James' 21st Birthday Party. James cuts the cake and Uncle Basil gives a toast before James gives a speech, and we see people dancing. |
