Description |
On May 23rd 1954 the 'Aries' and her crew left Kingston-upon-Thames for Kingston-upon-Hudson, 60 miles up river from New York. The 'Aries' was a 61 foot M.Y. fitted with two Foden 6 Cylinder Two-Stroke Diesel Engines. Her crew, Capt. Harcourt-Smith, Comdr Hight, David Foden and Sub-Lieut Skelton set sail from Kingston-upon-Thames after farewell drinks on board with the Governing Managing Director William Foden, the Mayor of Kingston and Admiral Lord Frazer. They are waved off by crowds. There are scenes of the crew on board the boat in Kingston-upon-Hudson, and then we see the crew on their return journey. They travel down the Thames, past the sights of London, and arrive in Kingston-upon-Thames where they are greeted by crowds of the public and the press. They have completed a 8500 mile round trip that has taken 1500 hours, and have experienced strong storms on the Atlantic. |
