Description |
A specially commissioned film of a visit by Princess Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh to the Harold French (now Rufflette) factory in Wytheshawe in 1949. Arriving by car to be greeted by various local dignitaries and enthusiastic crowds, they go on a tour of the factory, looking at various displays and watching aspects of the factory's manufacturing processes: most of the employees are women, and they are shown welding, weaving and operating machinery. After they leave, 1000 invited guests go on a tour of the factory, and there is a function with an 'orchestra' in the works dining room. |
